By now, you guys should have figured out who I am. If not, allow me to introduce myself.
Yes. I'm Squall. A.k.a. Kyros. A.k.a. the quintessential hero. Yes, I'm still alive. And I've been keeping tabs on this site for quite a while, albeit, only as a lurker.
Two individuals really come to mind when it comes to the most influential people from my days in RP: DragonMasterAlex (which some of you know here as good ol' Rias) and BlueLightningFlik (yes, that Flik).
Alex was the first of the top tier fighters that I really remember meeting. He was the one that I wanted to be like, and furthermore, surpass, when I started fighting.
It was Alex that inspired me when he, for lack of a better term, took me under his wing and gave me a spot as a "Defender" of Chars (back when all the sites were still at odds with each other, etc.), eventually taking his rank as Guardian when he left. I still remember an old ally turning on me, posing as Alex, and aligning with Flik during the great Civil War, only for the real Alex to come back and aid our effort.
I honestly never thanked the guy for giving me the fullest sense of what it was like to play the hero archetype.
And then there's Flik. For the longest time, I remember how many times I fought against Flik. One would liken it, per se, to the rivalry between The Rock and HHH in the older WWF days. He really played an excellent villain to my hero type. But beyond that, though I really didn't realize it until he was long gone from the scene, all of those fights? Learning experiences. Every time I thought I'd reach a new plateau, Flik was there to challenge it and make me go even farther. The constant adaptation to his strategy, pushing myself to go faster than I thought? Honestly, thanks to Flik.
It was these two gentlemen that really cemented what my character was back in my RP days.
Back in my RP days. Damn, saying that makes me sound hella old. Oh well.
