I've read and caught up on all the recent posts here, for whatever that's worth. I won't say anything in regards to them, it's old news, and irrelevant news. I don't want to talk about anything negative and/or controversial here. I just simply want to say "Hi" for a moment and say I'm grateful to whomever you all were, and are today. Oodles of you were influential to my life in ways I can't begin to elaborate on, for bad or worse, it opened up paths for me to choose and take. I got joy and pain from this whole experience. I got to know a lot of people in and outside of Roleplay. Many friends were made, enemies too, but also lots of bridges were burned along the way which was my choice to make. I didn't make all the right calls or decisions, I'm anything but perfect and I don't aim to be. Acceptance and neutrality is more than enough for me. If I hurt any of you, I'm very sorry. I wish we'd all found a way to restore Roleplay, and kept our realities excluded. But I suppose if it'd maintained that way I wouldn't of met or known more about any of you.
All the fighting and bickering could've just as easily been squashed with Roleplay, instead of making it personal and escalate. Egos from characters transcended to reality, and showed. I'd know, it happened to me. It's just a darn shame the way everything had to be. That said, people saying "speed-fighting" is dead is something I'd been inclined to agree with for a long time. Even as I'm about to leave the Net the 13th of August ( possibly forever ), I know speed-fighting is salvageable. I don't mean like there's a secret chat-site laying about carrying thousands of people who already speed-fight and we just so happened to not notice. I don't mean because us older folk at the game are still holding interest and on the lookout. I mean because the concept of "speed-fighting" is not only malleable for its users, but for chat interfaces becoming more advanced.
Dipping into a pool over and over again without ever filtering out the old water just gets it dirty. We can't use what we've already used and try to make more of it, especially if it's broken. People aren't going to come back to speed-fighting as it is because in essence it can only produce the same old draw, which is outdated, and not as modernized. I'm not saying stylistically in of itself (sure some things could be tuned), but the way it's advertised and employed. Speed-fighting has been utilized for settling in-real-time fictional drama, making it a little more ideal than Turnbase (not bashing it, just comparing time constraints). In some aspects making it immersive friendly without having to go OOC (out of chat) too much. But there was a growing competitive scene over time that subjected itself to Doyalism, and I'm not poking at Alex with this -- it's just the terminology Speed-fighters came to recognize meaning something like "an ab to a ab has ab on air now". We all got caught in it and fell to its supposed perks. Even if some of us has a higher likelihood to preserve our writing ethic for RP sake, in fights where Doyalism was brought out we lowered ourselves to the same circumstance. It's hard to condone writing actual literate posts when your opponent is trying to constantly attack you with things like "- nose to the nose of bob -". It not only effectively kills the art and joy within roleplaying, but also its reputation. People seeing what was considered legal or doable made it less appealing. It was much simpler for anybody to convert from speed-fighting to Turnbase if they wanted a chance at perhaps actual story. Speed-fighting didn't always possess the uttermost constructive story that Turnbasers have the opportunity to set length to, but the in the now feeling from it gave more realness to our stories. That's what truly captured people.
So, it's already been established we can't force or currently influence others to change up their approach to speed-fighting, or to come to it based on its current state. We can't make people write or say what they don't want to. So... how do you influence it...? What would change the landscape of speed-fighting on a level big enough for it to recreate itself repeatedly throughout modernized times? The answer is obvious, but not without its complexity to its implementation. MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! NICE HOT GREEN FAT WADS OF CASH!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing meets more bare necessity than that... CRISP FEEL OF FRESH FUCKING MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But really, even if it's been brought up, nobody has gone in-depth with the potential money has on even something like a textual game. People naturally would flock to speed-fighting if it consisted of real money, or a gold system (similar to Xat's) that could be usable within an RP setting and such. It wouldn't just be intended for functions derived through speed-fighting, but other roleplay performances as well. We've kept all of our options on a budget, and produced sites that're typically always outdated. We've never fully realized the potential of where speed-fighting could be lead to. We've only had old figureheads entertaining old crops of folk, with little to no expansion in this newer world. Every time speed-fighting gets supposedly redone or reformed on another chat-site, it's still pitched essentially the same way. Tournament system, events, forums, maybe a new plot-line, and some minor innovation with no relevance to changing the foundation of speed-fighting. To make speed-fighting be popular and consistently active on the level I'm talking about would probably take 2 years for it to be a real success, it wouldn't be immediate nor easy. An instant revival simply isn't possible. All types of resources and networking would NEED to be pulled, it couldn't happen over night. No amazing long-term brand stands for long if it isn't brought up with steady care. None of us have actually dumped $10,000 into brand new chat software and bothered to put it all together, now have they?
Realistically, speed-fighting can and could have a selling point beyond just doing the fighting part. Putting money into the pockets of people supporting it is more than a start, and a way to reinforce their interest. If people who aren't even speed-fighting but are roleplaying hold intrigue to the fights, then that's kind of all we really needed to begin with. You can't just promote fighting through the fighters themselves, but also through the people with vested interest in it. There's all types of ways we could either use money, or generate it. I wholeheartedly know there's a prosperous route in this for all of us, and future newcomers if something like this ever existed.
Obviously, one of the big questions is asking where does the money come from first? It would be me, or <insert some other wealthy person here who gives a shit about this>. Why would I or should I? I liked and loved speed-fighting. I liked and loved some of the people in it. I like what it could and can do for others. I also feel like I owe it to myself and others to attempt helping where I can, even though my hands will be tied for quite some time. It isn't an issue for me to fund something like this. I'm not technologically savvy in all the ways I wish I was, but there are others I know and people that can be hired to undergo these sort of projects. Really, it just dwells down to having the dedication for this, and some cooperation.
Aside from RP...
I hope all of you are doing well, and if you're not, I'll pray tonight that things turn up for those that have been less fortunate. Always strive for things that people or yourself doubt you'll ever have or be. Anything that is your biggest dream should be the reality you're chasing, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. I've made it a point and code to prove anyone or anything wrong when it came to putting me down, or saying I couldn't be whatever it is I wanted to be. Nothing is more satisfying than completing those goals you've set out toward even with all the naysayers trying to keep you down. The best version of you is the one you can see and accept as you. I really do wish you all find whatever is in within yourselves to make you happy, and feel fulfilled. Emptiness is an internal blight no one should condemn themselves to. You're only forsaken when you take it as though you are.
I'll be almost 100% inactive online starting the 13th of August, and won't be roughly making any type of appearance till December briefly -- which then I'll only be able to fully come back next summer, so about a year. If I haven't returned at all, then sadly the risks and leap of faith I'll be taking will of jeopardized my ability to do so. If this is the case, then I want you all to know I'm forever thankful to you. If it isn't, then I look forward to returning new and ready to rejuvenate things online. I'll be leaving my old email address on here, in case any body that doesn't have it needs to reach out before contact becomes unattainable.
All of you have a blessed summer, and please take care!
