There are, as a matter of fact, some bastions of RP left about in Xat. Most of them are dens of nonsense, what I'd like to call "nurseries". Filled with new blood that wants to learn things, so they look up and find . . .
Little to nothing. I've taken a very recent interest as to what predates the time that I started RP, and that led to me discovering this place. Of course, it was an extremely late find; I'm most likely kicking a dead horse here. Despite that, there simply aren't many mentors around with the heart of a teacher. Sure, there are ones about who will teach, but its overall simply laced with ego-stroking. I am speaking primarily of xat here, of course, but I digress.
I am interested in learning more here. That's one person who wants to delve into Rp'ing further, and if one person thinks of it on this world, he can't be the only one.

Despite that, there simply aren't many mentors around with the heart of a teacher. Sure, there are ones about who will teach, but its overall simply laced with ego-stroking. I am speaking primarily of xat here, of course, but I digress. The problem with Xat's 'Old Generation' is that only like two or three actually took the time to train new combatants to keep the world fresh with new fighters, which is completely the opposite of our problem. We had plenty of fighters of high caliber, with a shitload of low to medium ability everywhere. I have trained four people on Xat, Mikalo, Yatoshime, Yata and Kyo in speed, the only problem with me is that I refuse to train people who don't want to be trained, or are of very low skill. They have to be already medium tier, and then I will show them the way to break through their peak levels, and for some reason, I have a very good skill in regards to doing it. That is the only problem with Xat, there has only been 2-3 that actually met what we call a 'High Tier' on there. Haseo, Drifter, and Hokusa. Hokusa was a master because he not only had extreme speed, but he also had abstract thought ability on top of it while in the middle of combat. Haseo was faster than anyone I have ever fought on Xat, though he lacked battlefield perception. Drifter's skill after The Drifters improved significantly and right now he is probably the most underrated fighter to ever exist on Xat ( Only because people loathe him and don't want anything to do with him ). Xat has a long way to go before it dies completely, and I don't seeing it dying for another two years. What we probably need to do is go on a recruitment and training spree, giving the rules out to many peoples across the RP sphere. The only problem with that is the para vs. speed mentality that is developing here, due to ONLY the old Para clans exist and none of the speed fighting clans exist anymore.

If you truly want to learn, come around RPhaven some and I'll look into it, there are a few legacy players who have hung about it a bit recently, myself, the Tsuki' clans founder Gin, and Aoi Strife popped in a few times, he has a mentality very close to Lance though so don't get any hopes up about him doing anything for you.
Aside from that however, it also has an RP community much larger than XAT and I believe RPG as well, If you truly want to learn something about how us old roleplayers used to do it, and roleplay which you want to improve I'm not above training those who have the dedication to it, but if you have some lack luster want for it, expecting to get better in a week, don't even try, I'm tired of looking through the shit pile for diamonds that may one day shine.
This was in general for everyone, but moreso for Tentou.

Very well. I've been wandering around a bit as far as chat sites go, and RPHaven was next on my list. I understand perfectly well that improvement isn't an overnight process, and takes some significant time. I'll take any oppurtunities whatsoever to learn - when they are available. While being moderately low in speed for as long as I can remember, I can say that I've kept even with Hokusa in the two times we interacted as far as adaptability and flexibility in combat goes. This is certainly something to hold with a garin of salt in terms of credibility, but I'm at least not some bottom-of-the-barrel scum.
Or, well, that's what I would like to think.

I got myself banned from proboards (not this website specifically) for using wget (a web bot) to archive posts from old forums, oops. Using a proxy to access this site from home. I've been lurking (i do this a lot) these forums for a while, and your enthusiasm for tech-two rulesets is certainly profound and brings back a lot of memories Lance. (and you're the only person in the world who has uploaded videos to youtube about it) I think you can enjoy role playing again, but not without some significant growing pains. Speed-fighting was always rare in its heyday, and reading about some of these newer rulesets with boosted word minimums I can only think back and wish we at least had those higher word counts for T2.
You can, infact, continue speed fighting with your contacts as it sounds like you already do on IM, but you need to be rehabilitated if you want to enjoy sporadic role playing. Freeform has always been king of live chat role play, and IRC is the place to be. IRC rooms are more active late-afternoon to evening, with a lot of idlers /away throughout the day. A lot of IRC role plays have some lore you have to fit into, but there is still a lot of freedom for your character. They also have more rigid guidelines for being IC, and tend to have an _OOC channel accompanying there rp.
The hardest part of being "rehabilitated" is resetting your character. You really need to adopt the philosophy "Who your character becomes", rather than starting out with any significant background, reputation, achievements or even considering yourself a hero/villain. You don't have to portray a hapless noob, but when entering rp with a new set of people you have to show signs of inexperience.
I played the same character for years on our circuit of web chats, and after a google search it's clear that you've been using the moniker Lance longer than i was DMO at this point. I've also seen your other character names like (Red Lightning Z?), you don't have to drop any names that you like to use, but you do have to reset, socialize and renew them in a new setting. Not telling you what to do, merely making suggestions. It was very hard for me for a long time to detach the persona and reputation I had built up, and go back to freeform. But it's not bad. In retrospect, I think Rias, Flik and Kyros built their reputation more from simply being IC and freeforming than from being good at T2 (and Flik and Kyros were very good at T2). Rias was a good T2 fighter when it was new, but he got left behind, and people remember him more fondly than any of the speed fighters that bested Kyros.
We've only ever met IC before Lance, a very long time ago. I think it would be great if there was an outlet for speed-fighting role players, with an emphasis on role playing. There just isn't one, tech-two has been an exhibition for a long time. Not knocking any of the modern speed fighter's skills, and this may be uncalled for since RP decayed a long time ago for people who tech-two, but listing achievements as "Defeated Ukyo 5-0" (i dont even know ukyo wat) doesnt sound as cool or fun as "Vanquished the death knights from the realm, slaying the warlock, and rescued the fair maiden." Having a reason to fight was always more fun to me than the fighting itself. Anyway, I still recommend that you try inserting yourself into a new realm, it may at least amuse you while you wait for a new bastion of speed fighting to appear (if it ever happens).
Cheers

Zennousha von Blitz ( Red Lightning Z ) and Vasheen Bladeweaver are probably my two most well known characters, because Lance didn't really have a ... Character. He is just a plain knight setting off on adventures into foreign lands and loves to fight. Vasheen actually had a purpose and outline, a history, a place he was from, and stuff, while Lance is almost like a internet persona.
Okay, other than THAT rant, what you said was absolutely true about the speed fighting community after Chars. There was no great war anymore, no more great knights, just invaders coming to rough people up, the 'bad guys' are just attention whores who care only about who is the fastest, not the best. That is saying a lot, coming from me, who turned into one of those guys after my failed tries into resurrecting the RP portion of it.
Role playing has died in chat rooms, and those that chats that enforce RP die a quick death by everyone leaving that place. It is not just one individual that is creating this atmosphere, it is the entire community. Too many people have gotten used to sitting in a RP chat and just talking about nothing. I am glad IRC role playing rooms have stood the test of time, and I may head there one day to get back into hardcore RP.
At the moment, the only RP I can find is in a private chat, where most of the time it ends up with the person I am role playing wanting to cyber, and now I have burned a lot of bridges in regards to dismissing them.
I wish at the moment that speed fighting was like the old days, but no one wants that anymore, they just want the speed aspect of it. Though if the community did come in favor of it, I would change my style in a heartbeat just to join. Sadly though, most of the speed fighters and t1 fighters are just wanting to do it based on the competition aspect, and not the RP aspect. There is a lot of circlejerks to those that do not fit into the paragrim.

I do honestly miss the game from time to time, as it was so integral in shaping who I am and the way that I approach certain situations. But a lot of the heart from way back when is gone. There's less fun to it because the immersion is gone. I do miss the wars and the factions, and the days when fighting made sense. It's much like the WWF Attitude Era changing over into the WWE PG Era, and finally the "Reality Era" we have in the current WWE.
Maybe one day.

If anyone ever decides to come back, keep in mind Novus Initium Roleplay will always be up and running as well as the chat. Novus Initium Era will integrate a forum/chat omniverse that will offer speed-fighters from all around the net to mingle and to battle in any type of styles they want. This is taken into consideration that Speed-Fighters get bored at times and are willing to take on challenges such as learning another chat's fighting. Novus Initium is joining all speed-fighting chats onto one site basically. You can access other chats and their sites through Novus Initium if you decide to make Novus Initium your home and want to have access to the outside World as well. This also makes it easy for RPers to keep up to date with each other and to know exactly WHERE the RP really is. Maintenance will always be constant thing, but the site will never go under maintenance mode because the administrators are so good at working behind the scenes and making navigation and RP simple for players. I've taken the time to build a Universe and am paying for everything out of pocket. I did this so that all those who seek RP once again can replenish their hearts with the hobby that is RP. History of Roleplay has been added as an Affiliate on Novus Initium for informational purposes and to support HoRP after everything they have done for speed-fighting and RP. Many discussions have taken place here, a lot of information is stored here, and many RPers netwide have stumbled upon each other, and many were found that were lost because of HoRP. I want to take this moment to applaud HoRP for giving it their best 110% of the time. I also want to take a moment to salute the Veterans and Hall of Famers in Speed-Fighting History, and for all those unmentioned or forgotten. I want to take a moment to say thank you to every single Speed-Fighter and Turn-Based Fighter. Thank you for keeping Roleplaying Combat alive throughout the years. A legacy that would be forgotten within the data that is the Internet. A history never to be told if not recorded. We've set an Empire built by a Community that took the thought process of a fight to a new level. Thank you to all that contributed to roleplay fighting and it's history. Conclusively, I would like to share some links with everyone. Click Novus Initium Home for the Main page and to see the Novus Initium Universal Chat and Forum Laws. Click Novus Initium Chat to visit the Novus Initium Chatrooms created and paid for by Shonengetsu Chronos. Click Novus Initium Speed-Fighting Guide to view the Speed-Fighting Guide for Novus Initium's Chatrooms. Feel free to register. Chat is accessible to guests. To view extra sub-menus hover over the menu buttons to see them.

Not sure what it is but lately I've been kind of itching to get back into it a little bit. I reckon' I'd still be able to whip people around like the good ol' days. MG, you better still browse this place and show your face. There might still be some fun left.
Hope everyone is well and good.

speed fighting is still true to the definition of roleplaying and "creativity" is subjective. also the different styles of speed fighting, alongside its competitive nature, were mostly created to break the mold so people wouldn't get acclimated to posts fueled by muscle memory. this is the main reason you see people better at one style than others. if you want to know what killed chat rooms -- you need not look further than online gaming. chats were more easily accessible to "kids" (as most old school RPers were at the time) and not everyone was running a DSL/Cable connection like they do now. once the "kids" grew out of having e-girlfriends and e-fighting, the community died out. there was not as much "young blood" coming into replace the people who left, because faster internet became more common and WIFI made it easier to jump into competitive video gaming. So as a result, the chatrooms dissipated. chars31 and UG and all those other places would run with about 10-30 people in the chatroom at any given time. i'd suspect you'd be lucky to find a RP chat room with more than 5 people on at one time unless it was premeditated. so if anything, speed fighting kept RP alive (and more interesting) a lot longer than it should have. My name is Jay. I attended UG Para 31, DBZ official site back in '99. I met Atreyu, MG, Amicus, and everyone back in 2001-2002. Years have passed me by, and I have no idea where they went. I still speed fight to this day in various chats, but the only problem is that I 5-0 them all. Wheres the good fights at these days?
